The truth is not a one-off. It’s not something you try on and take off like a blue party dress. Truth is a way of life.
Like any way of life, it takes time, and patience, and, yes, practice. Telling and living and trusting truth comes out of a deep well of faith, and it’s cultivated by sharing our lives with others living this way of life.
Jesus said, “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life.” (John 14:6)
Jesus kept going. “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,” he said, “and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)
And finally, Jesus declared, “Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” (18:37)
Truth is a way of life that we choose when we choose God. We tell the truth because we trust the truth. We trust the truth because we trust God.
